Tata Steel net up at Rs. 4,222 cr.

Pays 130 p.c. plus 25 p.c. special dividend


  • Group total income at Rs. 25,651.38 crore
  • Fourth quarter net up 41 p.c. at Rs. 1,103 crore

    MUMBAI: Tata Steel on Thursday reported a net profit of Rs. 4,222.15 crore for the year ended March 31, 2007, as against Rs. 3,506.38 crore in the previous year and the total income increased to Rs. 17,985.69 crore from Rs. 15,470.26 crore.

    The company posted a 41 per cent increase in the net profit at Rs. 1,103.50 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2007, as compared to Rs. 783.11 crore for the same period a year ago.

    Total income (net of excise) for the quarter grew by 21.49 per cent to Rs. 5,060.21 crore from Rs. 4,164.89 crore for the corresponding quarter a year ago, the company said in a release. The board of directors at its meeting on Thursday declared a 130 per cent dividend (Rs. 13 on a share of Rs. 10) for 2006-07 and a special centenary year dividend of 25 per cent.

    As per the consolidated results for the quarter ended March 31, the group recorded a profit after minority interest of Rs. 964.37 crore as compared to Rs. 813.22 crore for the corresponding quarter a year ago. Total income (net of excise) of the group grew to Rs. 7,559.40 crore for the quarter ended March 31, from Rs. 5,374.92 crore a year ago.

    For the whole year, the Tata group recorded profit after minority interest of Rs. 4,177.27 crore as compared to Rs. 3,734.62 crore in the year-ago period.

    The total income (net of excise) of the group grew to Rs. 25,651.38 crore for the year ended March 31, 2007, from Rs. 20,568.88 crore for the period under review last year. — PTI
