NGO to campaign for conservation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Nethaji Computer and Vocational Training Centre (NCVTC) will organise a State-wide campaign to mobilise support for the conservation of paddy fields and water resources. The NGO will conduct awareness camps in 152 block panchayats.

A 15-minute telefilm titled `Paani Parudeesa' highlighting the environmental impact of reclaiming wetlands will be screened at the camps. Volunteers will distribute pamphlets on water and land management, conservation of paddy fields and water resources, rainwater harvesting and the participation of panchayats and grama sabhas in conservation efforts.

The Department of Local Self Government is extending assistance for the campaign. A two-day workshop is being organised here on May 21 and 22 to prepare the pamphlets.
