HYDERABAD: The police on Thursday foiled the bid by Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti president Manda Krishna to begin an indefinite hunger strike in front of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's residence here.

They arrested the agitating MRPS president near his office at Parsigutta when he tried to take out a rally with hundreds of supporters.

Mr. Krishna, who showed signs of uneasiness due to the sweltering heat, was immediately shifted to Gandhi hospital for treatment.

The MRPS is demanding that the Government convince the Centre to amend the laws to pave way for categorisation of Scheduled Castes.
