Puducherry: The entrance examination for admission to MBBS course in the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) here will be held on May 27. Dean of JIPMER K.S. Reddy said on Thursday that a total of 26,130 candidates would appear for the examination, which would be held simultaneously in Puducherry, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram. While 3,855 candidates would take the test in Puducherry, the number of candidates who would appear for the examination in other centres is as follows: 4,150 in Chennai, 3,548 in Hyderabad, 9,103 in New Delhi, 3,129 in Kolkata and 2,345 in Thiruvananthapuram. JIPMER has a total of 75 seats in the first MBBS class. But only 46 seats will be filled through the the entrance test, as 11 seats will be filled on the basis of common entrance test at the all India level conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and 18 seats earmarked for nomination by the Centre.
Quota of seats
The 46 seats for which the test is being held are apportioned as under: 12 seats under open general competition, 8 for open Scheduled Castes, 6 for open Scheduled Tribes, 17 for candidates coming under Puducherry General category and the remaining 3 seats are earmarked for candidates belonging to Puducherry Scheduled Caste category.
