18-day `Tin Hau' Chinese food festival gets under way

DIG IN! Guests a `Tin Hau' Chinese food festival that began in Vijayawada on Thursday.

VIJAYAWADA: The ambience was akin to traditional Chinese culture. The laughing Buddha, fire-emitting dragons and the entrance done up like a Pagoda. They all added a dash of authenticity to the 18-day `Tin Hau' Chinese food festival, which began at Oriental Pavilion of Fortune Murali Park on Thursday.

"The colourful interiors signify the energy and vibrancy of the rich Chinese cuisine and culture. Authentic ingredients and sauces have been procured to enable our chefs to prepare an assortment of delicacies," said hotel's general manager Mohammad Shoeb. A separate menu had been prepared under the trained eyes of chefs Amar Chatri and Sachin Talwar.

"Our chefs have taken more than a month to prepare the menu. This buffet festival will be on both in the afternoons and in the nights. We have starters, main course and also a wide range of desserts," Mr. Shoeb added.

The commencement of the food festival could not have come at a better time for a delegation of Chinese businessmen who were in the city on a business trip. They relished their traditional delicacies whole-heartedly.

Inviting fare

Barbecued lobster, oyster prawns, Mo Ku Chi Pien, braised duck with plum sauce, Saun Tien Yuk, Mahjong chicken soup and Moon Faan were some of the lip-smacking dishes on display on the inaugural day of the festival. To keep the diners in good mood, the management has introduced a lucky draw and the winner will get a surprise gift on the concluding day of the festival on June 3.
