BUZZ OF ACTIVITY: Film lovers waiting at the Tagore Centenary Hall in Kozhikode. Photo: S. Ramesh Kurup
Thiruvananthapuram has been playing host to the European Union Film Festival for the past three years. So, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy decided it was time to take the festival to some other city in the State. This is how the festival came to Kozhikode. It has turned out to be a wise move for the academy as film lovers in Kozhikode and neighbouring areas have welcomed the festival with open arms. As many as 1,000 delegate passes have been issued free. "We are delighted with the response from the movie buffs in Kozhikode," says V.K. Joseph, the vice-chairman of the academy. "We are glad that we chose Kozhikode as the venue." The followers of serious cinema in Kozhikode are happy too, for the last time an international film festival was held in the city was way back in 2000 (the International Film Festival of Kerala). The curtain comes down on the European Union Film Festival on Friday.
