KHAMMAM: The Communist Party of India (CPI), which joined the struggle for land, staged a protest in front of the Collectorate and the Zilla Parishad office seeking allotment of house sites to all applicants in the town and elsewhere in the district. Hundreds of party workers squatted on the road, which affected smooth flow of vehicular traffic. The police had a tough time clearing the road. Many of the protesters, including women, courted arrest. They were shifted to the police station. Cases were booked against 15 persons, including M. Salam, party town secretary. Earlier, the party workers came in a procession from the party office, to the Collectorate raising slogans.
