KANNUR: Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the Government will initiate steps to develop a `new Munnar' at the hill resort after the completion of the ongoing operation against encroachers in three months. Addressing an official function here on Thursday to mark the State-level conclusion of the Government's celebration of the 50 anniversary of the first Ministry of 1957, the Chief Minister said the Government would initiate steps to develop tourism facilities at Munnar. Moreover, after the completion of the operation by the three-member team appointed by the Government, steps would also be taken to assign land to the landless people in the area. Stating that his Government had initiated various measures to help various sections including farmers, Mr. Achuthanandan said the Smart City project signed by the Government was a major achievement. Steps would also be taken to start smallscale `smart cities' from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram, he added. The Chief Minister said the Government was seriously considering the development of a waterway from Manjeswaram to Parassala. The Kollam-Kottappuram waterway project would be completed in August, he said.
