HYDERABAD: There will be greater accountability in the functioning of the Andhra Pradesh Sports School once the three-phase selections across the State are over by July 5 with the coaches given specific targets, according to D. Murali Mohan, VC & MD of SAAP. Briefing the media, Mr. Mohan said the mandal-level selections for admissions to the Sports Schools (including Regional Schools in Kadapa and Karimnagar) would be held on June 4 at all mandal headquarters. The district-level selections will be held at all district headquarters from June 7 to 14 and the final State-level selections at AP Sports School (Hakimpet) from June 28 to July 5. For each of the Sports School 30 students (15 boys and 15 girls in the age group of eight to nine years) would be picked and given intensive training both in sports and academics. This time there will be a test in academics too for the aspirants. Mr. Mohan said there was no question of shifting the Sports School from the existing premises since a fully-equipped hostel building to accommodate about 300 students would be ready within a couple of months. "The Government is also contemplating an increase in the annual budget of Rs. 1 crore for the Sports School (which has been static since it's inception in 1992)," he said. Once the Games Village coming up for the World Military Games at Gachibiowli sports complex was completed, three floors would be given on a 33-year-lease to the SAI for Rs.19 crore, he added.
