Kesshni wins girls' under-9 title

  • Soumya Sharma defeats second-seeded Harshal

    NEW DELHI: Kesshni Bhasin of Modern School (Vasant Vihar) defeated Vanshika Aggarwal in the fourth round to win the girls' under-9 title in the Amity Delhi State chess championship at the Amity International School, Saket, here.

    Kesshni (4 points) and Vanshika (3) will represent Delhi in the National girls' (under-9) championship.

    In the open under-9 section, Soumya Sharma defeated second-seeded Harshal Shahi, the country's youngest rated player, in the fourth round to join top-seeded Prince Bajaj in the lead at four points.

    Girls under-9 (fourth round): Kesshni Bhasin (4) bt Vanshika Aggarwal (3); Abhilasha Mittal (3) bt Sharvi Goyal (2); Bani Kochar (2) lost to Devasri Lal (3); Niharika Joshi (2) bt Ananya Bagla (1); Priyansha Kalra (2) bt Stuti Dewan (1); Aamna Munjal (1) bye.

    Third round: Vanshika bt Abhilasha; Stuti lost to Keeshnis; Ananya lost to Sharvi; Devasri bt Priyashna; Aamna lost to Bani; Niharika bye.

    Second round: Abhilasha bt Devasri; Kesshni bt Ananya; Bani lost to Vanshika; Priyashna bt Aamna; Sharvi bt Niharika; Stuti bye.

    First round: Aamna lost to Kesshni; Niharika lost to Abhilasha; Ananya bt Priyashna; Sharvi lost to Bani; Devasri bt Stuti; Vanshika bye.
