Admission tickets arrive after exam begins

  • Karnatak University's BA Part I exams began on April 24
  • Varsity posted admission tickets on the same day

Belgaum: A good number of first year undergraduates from Belgaum could lose a year because of what is being described as negligence on the part of Karnatak University, Dharwad.

The Office of the Registrar (Evaluation), Karnatak University, posted admission tickets to candidates from Belgaum appearing for the BA Part I examinations for the academic year 2006-07 on April 24, the day the examinations began. The candidates received the admission tickets only on April 26. By then, they had already lost the chance to appear for two subjects on April 24 and 26.

A worried candidate told The Hindu here on Thursday that even the examination timetable was not displayed in the college/examination centre. The timetable was enclosed along with the admission ticket.

There are about 40 to 50 candidates who did not get the admission tickets in time, which means the loss of one academic year. How will the university compensate them for this loss, asked the candidate, who requested anonymity.

College authorities reportedly said they had no information about the admission tickets. Yet they allowed a few students to take the examinations though they did not have admission tickets.

When contacted, University Registrar (Evaluation) C. Rajashekar said he would look into the matter and try to find a solution if the candidates approached the university.
