Special Correspondent

Corporate colleges hold sway in both medical and engineering streams

ACHIEVERS, ALL: V. Saiesh Reddy (3rd rank, medical), G. Ravali Priya (2nd rank, engineering), D. Chandrasekhar (2nd rank, engg.) and K. Rajendra Prasad Reddy (3rd rank, medical) savouring their EAMCET show in Hyderabad on Thursday.

HYDERABAD: A majority of the top rankers in EAMCET-2007 prefer IITs, NITs, BITS or national medical institutions to the State institutions.

Speaking to reporters, almost all the toppers expressed similar views. G. Ravali Priya and D. Chadrasekhar (157 marks each) who were awarded the joint second rank in engineering test prefer IITs or BITS. Shraddha Mehta of Narayana College who secured fifth rank said IIT was her first option.

Toppers in medical stream too have similar opinions and they want a seat in AIIMS or JIPMER than local medical colleges.

It was yet again the wave of corporate colleges as students of Narayana College and Sri Chaitanya College figured in the top 10 ranks in both medical and engineering streams.

In the engineering stream students of Sri Chaitanya got 2nd, 4th and 9th ranks while Narayan students got 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th ranks. First rank was not given to anyone.

Similarly, in the medical stream, three students scored 160 each and of them two belong to Sri Chaitanya and one belongs to Narayana group.

Toppers in the medical stream — V. Saiesh Reddy and K. Rajendra Prasad Reddy — attributed their success to hard work and guidance.

Hard work pays

The achievement of Rajendra Prasad Reddy is noteworthy since he has studied in Government school in Telugu medium till his 10th class.

Narayana group Chairman P. Narayana said that 43 of their students figured in top 100 in the engineering stream and 177 students got seat-assured ranks in the medical stream.

He said 1,448 students go ranks below 5,000 and this was a rare achievement. The Sri Chaitanya Director, Jhansi Lakshmibai said students from her institutions bagged the top ranks in both medical and engineering streams for the third time. She said 81 students got ranks in the top 100 in the medical stream and 728 students secured ranks within 1000 ranks.

In a statement, A. Vijayababu of Nalanda Institutions said that several of their students figured in top 100 ranks and nearly 4,000 students would get into engineering and medical colleges.
