JAI TELANGANA: A. Narendra with his followers at a meeting in Hyderabad on Thursday.
HYDERABAD: The split in the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was formalised on Thursday with the suspended MP, A. Narendra, claiming that he represented the real party and that he was expelling K. Chandrasekhar Rao from the organisation. Simultaneously, supporters of Mr. Narendra unanimously elected him president of the `TRS' at a meeting here. He was authorised by them to constitute the party executive. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Narendra claimed that Mr. Rao had lost moral authority to continue as president of the party after 10 of 26 MLAs deserted him. However, Mr. Narendra said he was not trying to seek support of the MLAs who left the party. "There are no MLAs with us as of now," he said. At the same time, Mr. Narendra said he was in touch with film star Vijayashanti and balladeer Gadar to forge a united struggle for separate Telangana. A committee was being constituted to mobilise all forces inimical to Mr. Rao on one platform.
Warning to KCR
A major congregation of such people would be convened shortly. He warned that Mr. Rao would have no other alternative but fall in line with them. Earlier, Mr. Narendra apologised to his supporters for standing by Mr. Rao in spite of the harm caused to the demand for separate Telangana by the latter. He said Mr. Rao indulged in character assassination by linking him with the fake passport scam so that he lost public sympathy.
