8 devotees hurt

TIRUMALA: Eight devotees, including a three-year-old baby, were injured when the private jeep in which they were travelling overturned after hitting a roadside railing on the ghat road leading to Tirumala on Thursday. The injured were rushed to SVRR Hospital. The baby, who suffered serious head injuries, was shifted to SVIMS superspeciality hospital. - Staff Reporter

Man's body found

TIRUMALA: The Tirumala two town police on Thursday found a man's body near TTD `D' type quarters. Police, who are clueless, recovered some phone numbers written on a piece of a paper from the man's body. The body was sent to SVRR Hospital for an autopsy. - Staff Reporter

2 officials suspended

KADAPA: DWMA Project Director M. Girijasankar has suspended two field assistants of Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Pullampet mandal owing to financial irregularities of Rs. 6 lakh in a social audit. The amount would be recovered from them within three months, he said. - Staff Reporter

Disciplinary action

HYDERABAD: Senior officials of the Endowments Department on Thursday conducted surprise inspections in various temples of Hyderabad, Warangal, Kakinada, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle. G.V. Narasimha Murthy, Additional Commissioner, said some staff members in Ganesh temple, Secunderabad, were transferred for not maintaining hygienic conditions on the premises.

Kakinada: Local MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna inaugurated the Kakinada - Chennai Garuda bus service at the RTC bus complex here on Thursday. G. Narasimha Rao, depot manager, said that the bus would leave Kakinada daily at 5.15 p.m. and reach Chennai at 6.15 a.m. the next day. In the return trip, the bus would leave Chennai at 7.00 p.m. and reaches Kakinada at 8.00 a.m. the next day. -Correspondent

Kakinada: The students of Narayana colleges have maintained the tradition of scoring top ranks in EAMCET this year also by bagging five top ten ranks --3,5,6 and 7 in mathematics stream and the third in Medicine stream, according to M.V. Subba Rao, zonal in-charge of the institutes.
