KURNOOL: Donbosco Technical School at B. Tandrapadu on the outskirts of the city has evolved a standard education-cum-skill training model for adolescent boys. The school has been offering skill training in seven trades that can fetch them employment without much difficulty.According to Bala Shouri, Director of the school, children at risk, mainly streetchildren and orphans in the age group of 14 and above, are picked up through Navajeevan Children's Home. After a formal counselling they are brought to the centre for training. At present, the school offers training in carpentry, welding, motor driving, fabrication, electrician and leather products manufacturing. Each student is given training for two to three years depending upon the need and trade. The school has a capacity to accommodate 150 students at a time.
Expenditure
During the training programme, the students are also prepared for formal examination at 7th and 10th level as private candidates. Mr. Shouri says the school spends Rs.700 per month on each student, which works out to Rs. 20,000 or above for the complete course.
