Youth forum to begin on May 19

Seminars to help the youth in effective social intervention planned

  • Lok Sabha Speaker to inaugurate the valedictory function on May 25

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry and the Youth Welfare Board are organising a youth convention here — Kerala Youth Forum 2007 — from May 19 to 25.

    Minister for Sports M. Vijayakumar and Youth Welfare Board vice-chairman Sree Ramakrishnan told reporters here on Thursday that 1,500 delegates would attend the forum to be inaugurated by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium at 4.30 p.m. on May 19. Actor Mohanlal will be the chief guest.

    Objective

    The main aim of the forum would be to make use of the youth for social good.

    Seminars, to help the youth in effective social intervention, have been planned. The conclusions drawn at the seminars will be compiled and presented to the Government.

    Venkitesh Athreya will inaugurate the seminar at the VJT Hall on May 20.

    A job fair, to be attended by 30 companies would be organised at the Bhagyamala auditorium on May 23 and 24. An exhibition on the career prospects in the Army, the Navy and the Air Force will be held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium.

    An `Exhibition for Youth,' to showcase the creative skills of the youth, will also be held at the same venue.

    National camp

    A national integration camp will be held from May 19. Social activists from Mizoram, Orissa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and selected youth from different districts in the State too would attend the camp.

    A two-day workshop on adolescent problems will be held at Samskruthi Bhavan from May 24.

    Close to 150 delegates will attend the workshop. A one-day seminar on `Investment possibilities in the tourism sector' has also been planned as part of the forum.

    Folklore workshop

    A folklore workshop will be conducted at Samskruthi Bhavan on May 22. A cultural procession will be held from Keltron Junction to Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium at 3 p.m. on May 19.

    Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will inaugurate the valedictory function on May 25.
