Early completion of railway overbridge sought

Staff Reporter

Work on it has been going on for three years

BERHAMPUR: Inhabitants of Lanjipalli and Ankuli areas of the city are demanding early completion of the construction of the Lanjipalli railway overbridge.

This overbridge has been under construction for more than three years and its construction work is delayed for various reasons.

Due to construction work the main connecting road to Lanjipalli and Ankuli areas of the city via Kamapalli market were closed.

Narrow roads

Now these inhabitants have to either take the long route via the engineering school square which means an additional distance of over 5 km.

Another path that leads to the area passes through the Ramnagar level crossing which was erected after the Lanjipalli level crossing was closed down for the construction of the overbridge.

Although the Ramnagar level crossing is broad it is connected to extreme narrow serpentine streets of a width of around six to eight feet.

These narrow roads have become dangerous and accidents were occurring every day, said Manoj Patnaik, a resident of Lanjipalli area of the city.

As people want to cross the narrow roads with heavy traffic in a hurry they usually take risk to cross the levelcrossing even while the gates are closed.
