BSNL to introduce 3G services in Kurnool

Telephone density rises to 5.42 per 100 population


  • 16 cell sites to be developed in addition to the 69 working sites
  • 35 new cellular sites planned in rural areas and nine in urban

    KURNOOL: K.M. Dorai Swamy, General Manager, BSNL, has said 3G services, which offer high value service like video telephony, will be introduced in Kurnool city this year.

    Talking to reporters in connection with the World Telecom Day here on Thursday, he said broadband lines would be increased by 5,600 from the current 800 lines during. Kurnool city would be augmented by 4,000 lines, Nandyal by 1,000, and Adoni by 600 lines.

    He said there was heavy demand for broadband services in the city.

    The present capacity of 800 lines was exhausted long ago. He felt that of 5,600 new lines, 80 per cent would be utilised during the current year alone.

    Better services

    Mr. Dorai Swamy promised to improved services to CellOne mobile customers saying that 16 cell sites would be developed in addition to the 69 working sites.

    Though infrastructure was available, they could not be put to use because of certain legal problems.
