MRPS leader launches indefinite fast

Staff Reporter

'SC classification issue should be resolved at the national-level'

KADAPA: A Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti leader Ranganayakulu launched indefinite hunger strike in Badvel on Thursday demanding classification of SCs by introducing a Bill in Parliament.

MRPS leaders -- Sambaiah, Gopaiah, Srinivasulu and Joji -- warned the Government of incurring the wrath of Madiga community if it did not restored SC classification. They demanded `A, B, C and D' reservations for students from this academic year.

Meanwhile, MRPS activists staged a rasta-roko protests in Kadapa and several parts of the district. Its activists, led by its State vice-president K.C. Lakshmaiah, staged a rasta-roko at ITI circle asking the Government to initiate steps to restore SC classification. The MRPS activists staged a rasta- roko at Brahmamgari Matham, Kalasapadu, Duvvur and other places.

Malas' protest

Meanwhile, Mala Mahanadu activists staged a dharna before Kadapa Collectorate resenting Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's assurance to classify SCs.

The Government should extend reservations in proportion to SC population, but bringing about a division among SCs by way of classifying them would be unacceptable, Mala Mahanadu district president J.V. Ramana asserted. SC classification issue should be resolved at a national-level, but the Chief Minister was supporting a section of SCs, he alleged.

Mala Mahanadu would resist any attempts to split SCs and would strongly oppose SC classification, Mr. Ramana stated. Its district general secretary B. Jayaraj and activists from some mandals participated. They submitted a memorandum to Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande.
