City to have many mega projects

Shankar Bennur

Process is on to acquire 2,000 acres of land

  • Most of the projects to come up in the Koorgalli area
  • Hospitality industry keen on investments in Mysore

MYSORE: Software technology parks, BPO parks, special economic zones (SEZs) for IT-enabled services (ITES), geographic information system (GIS) development centres, software development centres (SDCs), ITES parks, five star and three-star hotels, golf course, medical tourism facility, incubation centres and the list goes on. The State-level Single Window Agency (SLSWA) and the State-level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) have approved many mega projects for Mysore.

Among the projects cleared by the two agencies of the Department of Industries and Commerce, most of them are related to information technology, BPO, biotechnology and hospitality sector.

    Land

The land for these projects has been sanctioned at Koorgalli, Yelwal, Belagola, Tandya, and Nanjangud. But most projects, which are slated to bring crores of rupees of investments to the city, will come up in the Koorgalli area as the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has begun acquisition of 2,000 acres of land.

Significantly, the city has attracted investments from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Despite getting clearances from the agencies, the investors are awaiting allotment of land. The hurdles faced in land acquisition have been cited as the reason for the delay. But sources in the KIADB, Bangalore, told The Hindu that the land acquisition process initiated months ago was under way and land would be given for the projects cleared by the State agencies at the earliest. However, they admitted that they had to face hurdles in Mysore district, especially after the Nandigram incident in West Bengal, from farmers who were refusing to part their land unless they were given a better deal.

The sources said that acquisition of 1,000 acres in Yelwal hobli, 500 acres in Koorgalli, 258 acres in Anagalli was in various stages of completion. Also, 1,500 acres of land, earlier identified for the multi-crore FabCity project of Stem India, was ready for acquisition.

    Argument

Meanwhile, officials of the KIADB rejected the argument that farmers were opposing to sell their land. Those, who found the offer promising, had sold their land. They admitted that the acquisition process had been slowed down for the time being, but had not been stopped.

Significantly, seven special economic zones (SEZs) for information technology and information technology enabled services (ITES) have been cleared and all of them would come up in Koorgalli. Likewise, over a dozen of software development centres and software technologies parks have been cleared. The software technology park and BPO park of Nitesh Estates Private Limited, the facility of GIS of Midwest Infotech Private Limited and Software Solutions Centre of Kaizen Technologies have been approved at Yelwal, Belagoga and Koorgalli.

    Study

RX Wellnwrs and Research Centre, a Bangalore-based centre, has got approval for establishing a medical tourism facility here, following a study that rated Mysore as an ideal destination for medical tourism. With many tourism projects heading towards Mysore, including the much-awaited luxury train on the lines of "Palace on wheels", the hospitality industry is keen on investments in Mysore.

The proposals of a five-star hotel and a three-star hotel have been approved and Chennai-based Fairmount Hotels Private Limited has been offered land at Yelwal for its five-star hotel facility. The project of Bangalore-based Heritage Golf Private Limited for setting up a golf course, hotel and teaching facility at Channahalli near Kadakola has received green signal.
