Chilling murder of brother and sister at Gandhigram shocks Karur residents

  • Law enforcers yet to make breakthrough in numerous cases of burglaries
  • "Increase in incidents of crime"

KARUR: The killing of a 12-year-old boy and his 7-year-old sister at Gandhigram on Thursday has raised questions on effective policing, especially in view of recurring crimes in select areas.

Ramprakash and Deepika, children of LIC Development Officer S. Karthikeyan and teacher Jayanthi, were in their house at GR Nagar after their parents left for work.

Children from neighbouring houses had gone in and found the two in a pool of blood. They informed the elders who in turn called the police.

The killers had inflicted a deep cut injury on the neck of the boy and delivered a blow on the head of Deepika.

Police said that a foot-long knife was recovered from the bedroom where the girl's body was found. The killers had executed the murders in just an hour as the neighbours had noticed the victims playing with other children all the while.

An almirah was found open but no valuables were found missing immediately.

Superintendent of Police P. Sukumar inspected the spot.

The police have been finding the going tough in the past few months in areas such as Pasupathypalayam limits where serious crimes are committed quite often.

Law enforcers are yet to make a breakthrough in cases of burglaries in the recent months.
