Staff Reporter

Meant for latest Tamil movies, including yet-to-be-released `Sivaji'

  • Wrappers were valued at Rs 11.50 lakh

  • Two persons arrested in this connection

CHENNAI : Nearly two lakh empty wrappers of compact discs (CDs) of new Tamil movies, including 30,000 of the yet-to-be-released Sivaji, were seized from two printing presses in the city on Thursday.

The wrappers were valued at Rs 11.50 lakh. The presses were sealed.

The police said they were looking for the owner, Joseph Selvin (41) of Thuraipakkam.

His brother Sahayarajan (32), designer Johnson (32) and Tamizharasan were arrested. The police are also looking for Kaja and Faizal of Burma Bazaar who allegedly placed orders for the wrappers.

The action was taken on a complaint from Ramanujam of Arumbakkam. Commissioner of Police Letika Saran directed the Central Crime Branch to register a case.

According to the police sources, a team led by Assistant Commissioner (Copyrights) Madasami raided the presses at Begum Sahib Street and Muniappan Street in Triplicane.

It found that the owner of the presses was not authorised to print the CD wrappers. The wrappers included those of other movies, including Periyar, Unnale Unnale, Mayakannadi and Naan Avan Illai.

    Remanded to

    judicial custody

After registering a case under the Copyrights Act, police produced Sahayarajan, Johnson and Tamizharasan before a court in Egmore, which remanded them to judicial custody, a press release said. Additional Commissioner of Police S.R. Jangid and Deputy Commissioner of Police (CCB) Dharmarajan inspected the seized wrappers.
