Staff Reporter

Chennai : A revenue department assistant of the Chennai Corporation was suspended on Thursday for allegedly misappropriating Rs. 3 lakh.

Mayor M. Subramanian suspended C. Balaji Babu, an assistant in Pulianthope zone, for allegedly siphoning off income from the rentals of three Corporation community halls. Mr. Babu is charged with pocketing the money saying that it was for advance booking of the halls.

The Mayor also ordered disciplinary action on the Zonal Assistant Revenue Officer Sethubalan for failing to detect the irregularities in the revenue generation. Punitive action would be taken on tax collectors Gopalan (ward 42) and Sankar (ward 38) for aiding Mr. Babu in his activities, according to a press release.
