HYDERABAD: A fourth class student was killed after an electrical detonator exploded in his hands at Madhura Nagar in Raidurgam on Thursday morning. The boy, K. Rakesh (10), a student of local Government High School, had connected the detonator wires to a pencil cell battery in his house when the blast occurred resulting in grievous injuries. He was immediately rushed to a corporate hospital at Jubilee Hills where doctors declared him brought dead, according to the police. Rakesh's mother Sulochana was outside the house while his father Ganesh had gone out on some work. "He took a cell and connected it to a small box (detonator) when it went off. I was in a state of shock. When Sulochana and other neighbours came inside, they found the boy in a pool of blood," Renuka, the boy's aunt told the police. She, however, escaped unhurt. Raidurgam Sub-Inspector V. Janaiah said, "It is still mystery as how the child got the detonator. We are trying to collect more details from his family." However, residents alleged the boy could have got the detonator from a nearby construction site where quarrying was carried out for the last couple of weeks.
