Water tankers to have uniform colour

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Tankers supplying drinking water will have a uniform colour and will spot the sticker ``drinking water'' making them easily identifiable.

A decision to this effect was taken by the district administration on Thursday.

At present, all the tankers, both involved in transporting water and petroleum products, have the same colour.

Over the years there had been widespread complaints that many of the water tankers also doubled up as fuel carriers thereby polluting the water.

There had been instances of the public refusing to use the water suspecting the dual use of the tanker carrying it.

The decision was taken based on these complaints and apprehensions, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, District Collector, said.

The colour, however, was yet to be decided. There are over 300 tankers in the Kochi city limit having drinking water supply permit.
