KOCHI: Activists of the Kerala Congress (Jacob) took out a march in Kochi on Thursday as part of the protest day being observed by the party on the occasion of first anniversary of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government. Party leader T.M. Jacob, who inaugurated the rally at High Court Junction, charged the Government with gross violation of promises. Later, the activists staged a dharna near the taluk office. Mr. Jacob said the prices of commodities had risen sharply while the farm products were fetching lower rates. The Government could neither control the prices nor extend help to farmers. He said his party was of the view that import duty on coffee, tea and pepper should be increased. He alleged that the law and order situation in the State deteriorated. The Health Department was facing acute shortage of staff. The self-financing colleges issue was not settled. He demanded that all encroachers should be evicted from the Government land.
