Kerala Congress factions merge

KOCHI: Kerala Congres (S) led by P.M. Sunny has decided to merge with the Kerala Congress faction led by former Minister R. Balakrishna Pillai. Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Sunny said his party decided to merge with the KC(B) as it would provide an impetus to a unified Kerala Congress. He said that his party had been with the Left Democratic Front (LDF) for the last four years. "We have found that the LDF has not been able to rise up to the expectations of the people." The merger meeting will be held on May 29 at Ernakulam Town Hall.

Samithi demand

KOCHI: The Paristhithi Ekopana Samithi has demanded that the Government take possession of all encroached land in the Munnar tourist zone and bring out an ordinance to declare the area as heritage zone. The hilly area is home to rich bio-diversity. Criminal cases should be charged against the encroachers and their property confiscated, said John Peruvanthanam, convener of the Samithi.
