BSNL launches multi-lingual SMS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Thursday launched its multi-lingual short message services (SMS) for its mobile phone customers in Kerala.

At a press conference here, BSNL Chief General Manager (Kerala Circle) S.R. Pillai said mobile phone users could now send SMS in Malayalam and nine other Indian languages. All mobile phones that support Java MIDP2.0 technology would accept multi-lingual service. Geneva Software Technologies Limited is associated with the BSNL in offering this service.

BSNL customers will have to download the Geneva Messaging Service software to use the multilingual SMS. The customer care wing of the BSNL (phone 91-94000-24365) will give more information on this new service. Mr. Pillai also announced special promotional offers for its pre-paid and post-paid mobile phone customers. The special offers for pre-paid customers will be on till June 15 and that for post-paid customers till June 12. The number of BSNL's mobile phone connections in the Circle has gone up to 19.58 lakh. The company's plan is to add 30 lakh more mobile connections in three years. He said the BSNL would be able to provide phone connections on demand anywhere in the State by next year.
