Bickerings in Congress to the fore

Staff Correspondent

DCC president criticised for not treating senior leaders properly

BELLARY: That the Congress in Bellary district is a divided house was once again proved here on Saturday in the presence of senior Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes.

A group of party workers took exception to the failure of the newly appointed district Congress committee president Abdul Wahab in giving equal treatment to the former DCC President Shiraj Sheikh and MLC K.S.L. Swamy on par with other leaders.

"Proper invitation is not being extended to the leaders. We, along with our leaders, have come all the way to attend the meeting. But after coming to the DCC office, at least out of courtesy, none invited our leaders (Shiraj Sheikh and K.S.L. Swamy) and offered a chair to them. But other leaders were asked to accompany Mr. Fernandes while addressing presspersons, which has pained us a lot," party workers from Hagari Bommanahalli said.

Protest

To register their protest, Sheikh and Swamy along with their supporters came out of the shamiana even as Mr. Fernandes, along with other leaders, approached the dais. Later, some of the second line leaders were seen persuading the group to return but was of no avail.

The leaders and their supporters came back when Kamala Mariswamy, president of the District Congress Women Wing, managed to persuade them.

Abdul Wahab assured them that all proper arrangements would be made from next time onwards.
