India coach to be named in June: Shah

CHITTAGONG: India's new cricket coach would be identified in the second week of June, according to Board Secretary Niranjan Shah.

Mr. Shah was speaking to the media here on Saturday. He is here as part of a four-member BCCI delegation headed by the Board President Sharad Pawar and includes Board's administrative secretary Ratnakar Shetty and spokesman Rajiv Shukla.

Mr. Shah, who is also part of the seven-member committee that will finalise the name of the new coach, said, "The final decision will be known by early June. The coach's selection committee will meet in Bangalore on June 4 and take a decision in the next five days.''

Mr. Shah clarified that the delegation was in Chittagong for just a day at the invitation of the Bangladesh Cricket Board and not to interview Dav Whatmore, said to be in contention for the job.

The Indian team, said Mr. Shah, would leave for Ireland on June 20 to play three one-dayers against South Africa and one against the host. "We want to finalise the coach (issue) because the team needs to have a camp at Bangalore before going to Ireland." — Special Correspondent
