NEW DELHI: Load shedding is the biggest cause of concern for Delhiites, followed by metering and billing procedures. In a consumer satisfaction survey commissioned by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), 65 per cent of the respondents in the area served by power distribution company BRPL, 61 per cent in the BYPL area and a whopping 73 per cent in the NDPL area have cited load shedding as their biggest worry.
Jurisdiction
The survey conducted by TNS India that covered a sample size of 10,391 consumers from the jurisdiction areas of the three discoms, BYPL, BRPL and NDPL, has rated the three discoms in terms of performance, efficiency and consumer satisfaction.
The survey revealed that metering is the second most important consumer concern. Here again the percentage of people concerned about metering -- 32 per cent -- is the highest in the
Billing
Billing is the third important concern for consumers, while only 16 per cent said so in the BRPL area, the corresponding figures in the BYPL and NDPL areas were 21 per cent and 19 per cent respectively.
The study covered domestic consumers of different load categories of the three discoms, including those of Single Point Delivery (SPD) areas. Aimed at gauging the views of the consumers on the performance of the discoms on various parameters including supply of power, voltage fluctuations, load shedding, metering, billing, time taken to get a new connection among others, the survey began with gathering the views of people from January 15 this year.
Consumers
In the category of consumers of less than 2 kW load, 64 per cent of the respondents in the BYPL area cited
Forty three per cent of the respondents in the 10 kW plus consumption category in NDPL area cited fast running meters a problem area, while 18 and 21 per cent in the BRPL and BYPL areas respectively said the same.
Majority
In the more than 2kW load category, bills reflect the correct meter reading for a majority of the consumers, in the 2 to 10 kW load category
Consumers of all categories across all the three discoms reported that the bills are always delivered on time and 20 per cent in the NDPL area, 32 per cent in the BYPL area and 30 per cent in the BRPL area are satisfied with billing.
