Rs. 6.90 cr. earmarked for sports infrastructure

    BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Government will spend Rs. 6.90 crores towards development of sports infrastructure in the State this year.

    Chairing a high-level review meeting here on Saturday, Sports and Youth Service Minister Debasish Nayak said stadium work at Bhanjanagar, Puri, Jashipur, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Bari and Jajpur would be taken in 2007-2008.

    Officials of the department were asked to expedite the sports infrastructure development work in different districts.

    Mr. Nayak said Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) had been given Rs. 2 crores towards development of Kalinga Stadium here. Similarly, Rs.6.33 crores was already sanctioned for setting up of State Sports Academy, which was to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs.10 crores.

    According department sources, about Rs.3.15 crores had been earmarked for various sports projects in 25 districts last year. The meeting also reviewed progress of different stadiums.
