Death for killing wife, son

BHUBANESWAR: A local court of Rourkela on Saturday awarded capital punishment to a man who had killed his wife and one-year-old son in January 2006.

The fast track court sentenced the man after convicting him under 302 of IPC. The court convicted him of killing his wife with a 'paniki' (vegetable cutter) and strangling his one-year-old son to death. The court also slapped a fine of Rs. 5000.

Mohan Mohanta killed his wife and son in connection with a family squabble at Teterkela under Bisra police station in Sundargarh district.

Following the incident, Mohanta absconded from his village. He was finally arrested on July 30.
