MYSORE: The former Minister and Congress leader M. Shivanna has sought Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankarmurthy's resignation for his "failure" to resolve the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) imbroglio. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Shivanna said that the silence observed by Mr. Shankaramurthy in the matter was unpardonable as he held the portfolio of Minister for Higher Education. "He has failed to take any interest in resolving the problems of the temporary employees of the university. He has no right to continue in the Cabinet", Mr. Shivanna said. He wondered whether Mr Shankaramurthy was refusing to oblige Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy as they belonged to different parties in the coalition. "Mr. Kumaraswamy's act of taking a woman Vice-Chancellor to task in full public glare does not befit the post of a Chief Minister. It confirms the allegations that he lacks experience to head a Government," Mr. Shivanna said. The Chief Minister could have invited her to the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore or to the Government Guest House in Mysore and discussed the matter, he said. "Mr Kumaraswamy has brought shame to not only the post of the Chief Minister, but also the entire administration," Mr. Shivanna said.
Plea
Referring to the demand for resignation of Ministers Alangur Srinivas and H.S. Mahadev Prasad by their own party member and Ministerial colleague C. Chennigappa, the Congress leader said that it showed that the Chief Minister had no control over his Ministers. Ullal had been a Congress stronghold. The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda's designs of splitting the minority community vote by fielding a candidate would be defeated. Congress candidate U.T. Khader would win. Mr. Gowda's decision to field a candidate against the BJP showed that all was not well between the coalition partners, he added.
