Record sale of buttermilk

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: With Vijaya buttermilk being the choicest drink to beat the heat, the Krishna District Milk Producers' Mutually Aided Cooperative Union sold a record 1.10 lakh packets (each of 200 ml) of its popular beverage on Friday.

Milk Union managing director T. Babu Rao said in a press release on Saturday that the milk factory in Vijayawada catered to the people of Krishna and West Godavari districts. The record sale of buttermilk took place on the very next day of the hottest day of this summer, when mercury touched 46 degree Celsius on Thursday. Thus, the earlier record of selling 91,470 packets of buttermilk, which was recorded on May 12 this year, was pipped within a week.

Earlier figures

The union, for the last four years, had been registering high sale of buttermilk in May. It sold 67,240 packets on May 5, 2005, 60,950 packets on May 22, 2003, and 55,300 packets on May 13, 2006.
