NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday sought an explanation from the Centre on the "behind-the-scenes" developments on India-Pakistan talks. The demand follows an interview by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf to a television channel, in which he reportedly said much progress had taken place in the dialogue. Talking to reporters here, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan earlier made similar claims on the bilateral negotiations. It was curious that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had been keeping quiet on the issue and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee did not think it necessary to take Parliament into confidence. "We want an explanation from the Government on the three interviews from the Pakistani leaders on bilateral talks," Mr. Javadekar said. General Musharraf is reported to have told the channel that the two countries had moved towards reaching an agreement on his four-point formula for solving the Kashmir issue: self-rule, autonomy, demilitarisation and joint management of borders along Kashmir.
