Slum dwellers protest

NEW DELHI: Residents of Nehru Camp slum cluster at Patparganj in East Delhi protested over the weekend against alleged inaction of the Public Works Department which demolished their "jhuggis" but did not give any compensation nor ensured their rehabilitation.

Justice Yakoob, a Judge from South Africa who has been credited with pioneering work in housing rights of people, visited the site and met the protesters. He asked the slum dwellers to continue with the protests and also engage the officials concerned in dialogue.
