Bangalore: EducationPlus, the popular supplement on higher education brought out by The Hindu , will conduct an annual Pre-Counselling guidance session for students where professionals of eminence from different fields discuss career options before students. This year's pre-counselling session will be held at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on May 21 (Monday). Students and parents who wish to attend are requested to be in their seats by 9.45 a.m. The chief guest for the session will be B. Somashekar, former Minister for Higher Education and Janata Dal (United) State unit president. He will speak on "Is the CET process still a relevant exercise?"
Panellists
The panellists include Swaminathan Krishnan, Chief Marketing Officer, SASKEN, who will speak on "Prospects in the IT and telecom sectors"; S.G. Hegde, Commissioner, Department of Pre-University Education, who will speak on "simplifying the CET counselling process"; A.C. Ashok, Professor of Surgery, M.S. Ramaiah Medical College and Hospital and Deputy Director, Testing, COMED-K, will speak on "a career in medicine and para-medical services"; Sudha Bhogle, head of Eduquity Career Technologies, who will speak on "soft skills as a career booster"; and M.S. Thimmappa, former Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor, who will speak on "career options in the basic sciences". Syed Jamal, Administrative Officer CET Cell, will answer questions from students and parents. The event is sponsored by the State Bank of Mysore in association with Garden City College, Manipal Education and Oxford Educational Institutions. There will be no registration charge. The amount of Rs. 100 collected earlier will be refunded. For further information, students may call, 22864240.
