"Schemes sanctioned for uplift of Adi Dravidars"

Be aware of government programmes, says Collector

KARUR : Various schemes worth Rs. 2.37 crore have been sanctioned for implementation under the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) during the current year in Karur, according to Collector T.N. Venkatesh.

Addressing a workshop on government welfare schemes being implemented through TAHDCO here on Friday, Mr. Venkatesh observed that Rs. 1.20 crore would be subsidy and the rest credit assistance through banks. Adi Dravidars should first get to know the various government welfare measures and TAHDCO schemes meant for their social and economic uplift and choose a path to prosperity.

A total of 1,741 members of the Adi Dravida community could benefit out of the funds allotted for the current year, it has been decided. Under the self-employment scheme, training was being provided to 415 Adi Dravida students in seven job-oriented trades, including nursing assistant, beautician in the district.

A sum of Rs. 48.23 lakh had been spent for the purpose, he said.

Those members of the Adi Dravida community who were not eligible for bank credit assistance could get up to Rs.10,000 from the District Collector's Discretionary Funds, depending on the need and purpose. For that, Rs. 4.81 lakh had been set apart for the current year, Mr. Venkatesh said. Last year, 63 persons were sanctioned Rs. 7.69 lakh through the measure.

Revenue Divisional Officer C. Natarajan, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, M. Madhavi, TAHDCO District Manager M. Ponnusamy and Assistant Manager R. Prabhakar were among those who spoke.
