TNBA defeats Indian Army

Periakulam: The Tamil Nadu Basketball Association registered its second successive win defeating Indian Army, New Delhi 69-50 in the summit league of the 48th P.D. Chidambara Sourya Narayanan Memorial Trophy all-India basketball tournament at PSD Courts, Periakulam on Sunday.

This was the second successive defeat for Indian Army as it lost to MEG, Bangalore on Saturday night. As such, Indian Army lost the race for the honours.

The results: TN Basketball Association 69 (John De Plato 12, Vinoth 10, Puvaneshwaran 10) bt Indian Army 50 (Promodkumar 20, Premkumar 10).

On Saturday: MEG, Bangalore 76 (Peter John 15, Sweeto Francis 19, Prasanth 15) bt Indian Army 66 (Sathishkumar 10, Subbriah 10, Rajah 11).

Karnataka Police in semifinals

Karnataka Police stormed into the semifinals with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Mohammedan AC, Kolkata in the 42nd Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Memorial Trophy all-India football tournament at USC ground, Kayalpatnam on Sunday.

The first half was goalless but Karnataka Police attacked strongly in the second as Archana opened the account off a pass from Arun Kumar in the 52nd minute. From then on, Karnataka Police took full control and scored three more goals. Karthick scored following a flag kick taken by Arunkumar in the 64th minute. Maheswaran scored off a pass from Sampathkumar in the 78th minute and Sampathkumar completed the tally off a Maheswaran pass in the 82nd minute.

Central Excise

Central Excise, Chennai moved into the second round of the second annual K.N. Subbaraj memorial Trophy all-India hockey tournament defeating Kerala XI 4-2 via a tie-breaker at the G.K. Stadium, Kovilpatti on Sunday. At the regulation time, the teams were level at 2-2. Nowsad (42nd minute) and Praveenkumar (56th) scored for Kerala while Suresh Babu (54th) and Karunakaran (62nd) scored for Central Excise.

In the tie-breaker, Saravanan and Nirmal scored for Central Excise.

In another match, host Rajiv Gandhi Hockey Club posted a 4-3 victory over AGORC, Chennai. Kumar (3rd, 10th), Ponmani (21st) and Suresh (63rd) scored for the host. G. Anbu (14th, 39th) and Muthu (38th) scored for AGORC.
