ADILABAD: Applications are invited for the post of Mentor at the Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC), Adilabad, from holders of any post-graduate or B.Tech degree by the coordinator of the JKC. The post carries an honorarium of Rs. 8,000 per month. The last date for submission of applications is till 5 p.m. of June 4. Statue unveiled

NALGONDA: The heroine of the Telangana peasants' armed struggle Mallu Swarajyam has asked the cadre of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to scrupulously follow the path shown by the stalwart Communist leader Puchhalapalli Sundaraiah .

"Comrade Sundaraiah should be our ideal figure in the movement to achieve land for the poor," she said after unveiling his statue in Miryalaguda town on Saturday night.

MRPS activists stage rasta roko

KADAPA: Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi members staged a rasta roko at Yerraguntla cross roads on Sunday expressing solidarity with MRPS State president Manda Krishna Madiga's hunger strike. MRPS State vice-president Kullayappa Madiga and secretary Solomon Madiga, who led the protest, urged the State Government to restore micro-classification of SCs by a Parliamentary enactment. — Staff Reporter

15 cr. aid for DRDAs

HYDERABAD: The Centre has released grants-in-aid amounting to Rs. 14.96 crore to 22 District Rural Development Agencies in the State as part of the first instalment during 2007-08 under the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana. According to an official release, the State should release its share of 25 per cent within a month of the date of release of the Central assistance. Special Correspondent

Crude bomb goes off accidentally

KURNOOL: A crude bomb went off accidentally in a house at Kasipuram in Owk mandal on Sunday. One person sustained injuries. According to reports, the bomb stocked in the house might have gone off due to high temperatures. Special Correspondent

Monsoon may be delayed

HYDERABAD: The south-west monsoon has not made any headway after its advancement up to the Andaman Islands. On Sunday the monsoon remained at Car Nicobar Islands. As such, the monsoon is not likely to touch the Kerala coast on May 24, as forecast earlier, an official in the State Met Office said. Special Correspondent

Freedom fighter passes away

GUNTUR: The funeral rites of freedom fighter and writer and Daruvuri Veeraiah will be held on Monday evening at the Stambala Garuvu cemetery. The octogenarian passed away on Saturday night at his residence in Chandramouli Nagar here. Several leaders called on the grieving family members on Sunday and expressed their condolences. Born on July 17, 1917 at Irukupalem village, Veeriah hailed from an agricultural family. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Staff Reporter
