Contract municipal workers put on notice

Report for duty immediately or face action, says Minister

  • Accumulation of garbage poses a health hazard
  • NGOs urged to help maintain sanitation

VIZIANAGARAM: Taking a serious note of the deteriorating sanitation in municipalities following the ongoing strike, Minister for Housing B. Satyanarayana has said that it has been decided at a review meeting with officials to issue notices to contract workers for abstaining from work and terminate them if they do not report for work immediately.

Action as per law will be initiated against those who have been preventing workers from attending duty, he has said.

At a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Satyanarayana said that in view of severe summer, accumulation of garbage would pose a threat to people. He asked contract workers to resume duty immediately. Or else, outsiders would be appointed in their place.

He appointed Vizianagaram RDO and DSP to monitor sanitation in Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram RDO and DSP in Bobbili, Executive Director (SC Society) and OSD, Parvathipuram in Salur and ITDA Project Officer and DSP in Parvathipuram.

He told municipal employees not to take law into their hands and discuss their problems with the Minister concerned. He appealed to voluntary organisations to take up sanitation and added that Congress workers, too, would join them from Monday.
