CUDDALORE: As part of its endeavour to ameliorate the sufferings of those in the tsunami-affected areas, the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) has constructed a school building at a cost of Rs.40 lakh at Venugopalpuram and a primary health centre in the Old Town area here.
Administration change
The top office-bearers of the AIBEA handed over the buildings to the district administration on Sunday. General secretary of the AIBEA C.H. Venkatachalam told presspersons that when the tsunami-hit the Tamil Nadu coast on December 2004, the AIBEA was the first to provide relief to the coastal community. He said the five lakh members of the AIBEA had contributed their one-day salary amounting to Rs. 8 crore to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to take up relief measures. It had collected Rs.1.20 crore through donations.
