Bangalore: The tenth edition of Bangalore IT.in will have a new location, new focus and a new theme. It is scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 1 at the larger Bangalore International Exhibition Centre premises on Tumkur Road. Secretary for IT and BT M.N. Vidyashankar told presspersons on Monday, "With Bangalore's IT industry having moved up the value chain, the focus this year will be on growing innovation, taking on macro agendas such as people, processes, products, markets, research and technology education, in Bangalore and other emerging centres." Since 1998, when the event was first launched, Bangalore had become home to almost 1,800 software firms and 100 hardware companies and close to 500 of them were global companies. A CII survey projected a growth of 20 to 25 per cent this year for the IT and IT-enabled services sectors and Karnataka's 35 per cent share in the country's software exports of $ 22 billion last year was a portent of the growth to come, Director, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Bangalore, J. Parthasarathy said. Pankaj Nath, Senior Vice-President of CyberMedia Events, organising Bangalore IT.in for the sixth year, said the exhibition centres would showcase new products and emerging technologies across verticals such as IT, telecom, mobile and wireless, research and education services and new gadgets. Business to business interactions and the presence of some big names associated with the industry would be important components too, he said. Mr. Vidyashankar said non-core IT business, including the BPO segment, had spread to IT parks developed in Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli and Bellary and some of these locations were being expanded this year with additional land sought from the State Government. "Both in terms of investments and jobs created, these new centres would grow the State's economy further," he added. The approach from Tumkur Road to the event location would be widened well in time, he added.
