ALAPPUZHA: The Kerala Land Revenue Staff Association (KLRSA) has protested the reported move of the State Government for mass transfer of Revenue officials from Idukki and other districts in the wake of the Munnar land encroachment issue.
Negative effect
In a statement, association president P.S. Rajiv and general secretary P.P.M. Ashraf said the move would have a negative effect as only a minority of Revenue officials had `succumbed to the temptations' of the land mafia. "Mass transfers would not be the solution," Mr. Rajiv said. "Land protection is only one among the hundreds of duties the Revenue staff have to attend to. Sudden transfer of these officials therefore can affect all other work in Revenue offices and thereby cause inconvenience to the public, starting from issue of caste certificates to other routine work. Further, when new officials handle controversial files, there is a high possibility of others being able to manipulate and knock off crucial documents. The solution is to hand out strict punishment to those found guilty," he said. The KLRSA would resort to agitations if the Government does not do a rethink, Mr. Rajiv added.
