HYDERABAD: The selection of a build, operate and transfer (BOT) developer for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, spread over 67 km in the city, will be done in October and the work will be completed in four years' time. Speaking to presspersons after a pre-bid conference with pre-qualified bidders of the project here on Monday, Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy said the technical bids would be submitted by the consortia by July 13 and after scrutiny, the process of financial bids would be completed by September-end. Five international consortia of companies got pre-qualified for Metro Rail system. It was also decided to select a single developer for taking up the project, he said. For the project estimated to cost Rs. 8,482 crore, acquisition of land to the tune of 43 acres was required and the same was expected to be completed by October. The shifting of utilities such as telephone, water pipelines, etc., were expected to be completed by then.
Corridors proposed
Totally shaping as an elevated Metro Rail with standard gauge, the project would come up in three corridors with 63 stations covering Miyapur-L.B. Nagar, Jubilee bus station-Falaknuma and Habshiguda-Shilparamam. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Special Commissioner Sanjay Jaju explained about the road-widening works being taken up along the proposed corridors.
Promised support
Special Chief Secretary (Finance) P. Ramakanth Reddy said the Andhra Pradesh Government was keen on launching and completing the project on schedule and promised the support needed for that.
Issues
Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) S.P. Singh said the Government was contemplating formation of a unified metropolitan transport authority. The proposed authority would coordinate efforts of various urban transport modes and address traffic and transport issues.
