CHENNAI: The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) on Tuesday announced the constitution of a committee to go into issues connected with health insurance for senior citizens. Headed by V.Hariharan (former President, Sundram Fasteners), the committee will make recommendations relating to possible abolition of age limit, "portability" of health insurance from one scheme to another, "pre-existing" conditions and deductibles, medical treatment on a "cashless" basis, incorporation of alternative systems of medicine into the insurance system, possible incentives to senior citizens for adopting healthier life styles and incorporation of the concept of the "family doctor" in insurance schemes and integration of travel insurance like mediclaim into the health insurance schemes. Members of the public and other stakeholders may send their views to R.Srinivasan, Officer on Special Duty with the committee, at rsrinivasan@irda.gov.in.
