NEW DELHI: After two years of successful operation, low-cost carrier SpiceJet is all set to expand its fleet of aircraft to increase frequency of flights to existing stations and add new routes.

The company plans to double the number of its passengers to 60-lakh next year, Siddhanta Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, SpiceJet, said here on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Sharma said the company would break even in the April-June quarter this fiscal and even make profit.

The airline announced various schemes to attract more passengers. "Starting today, we will be offering two-lakh seats at a special price of 99 paise for two or more persons travelling together till June 6 on all our non-stop flights covering 14 destinations. We are also offering an attractive low-cost travel insurance scheme.

"We have decided to begin sale of food in our flights from Wednesday,'' Mr. Sharma said..

According to SpiceJet Managing Director Ajay Singh, though the carrier's market share was just 7.5 per cent, the growth has been steady compared to other airlines. "Last year, our flights were 95 per cent full. We are expanding fast and improving our services. The growth potential is immense and we will further consolidate our position. We are also acquiring bigger aircraft and are keen on flying to neighbouring nations, particularly Gulf countries and Southeast Asia,'' he added.

On the consolidation in the aviation sector, Mr. Singh said there were many possibilities, which might materialise in future.
