Letters to the Editor
The editorial "A rising tide of hate," (May 22) rightly calls for immediate action by the Punjab Government to end the confrontation between the Akal Takht and the Dera Sacha Sauda, triggered by an alleged act of sacrilege by the Dera chief, Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Unfortunately, the Government seems to be taking a partisan approach to the issue. In view of the dangerous situation prevailing in the State, the Government should refrain from settling political scores at this critical juncture.
Balvinder Singh,
The politics of religion has assumed disturbing proportions in the wake of the escalating confrontation between the Akal Takht and the Dera Sacha Sauda. A deft handling of the situation is needed to resolve the standoff quickly. The BJP's concern over the people's fear about a return to the dark days of the 1980s is not misplaced.
K.S. Thampi,
