Hyderabad blast

The editorial "Friday outrage at a historic mosque" (May 20), while commending the efforts of the police in defusing two improvised explosive devices at the Mecca Mosque in Hyderabad, has rightly pointed out that the managements of places of worship should cooperate with the authorities in maintaining security.

Political parties too should behave responsibly when the government cracks down on suspects in the aftermath of such ghastly incidents. They should extend a helping hand without seeking to derive political mileage.

V. Bhimeswara Rao,
Secunderabad

That the terrorists could target a place of worship speaks to their insensitivity and cruelty. It is difficult to understand their psyche. One wonders whether they know what they seek to achieve through these dastardly acts.

A.V. Reddi Sastri,
Srikakulam

Mosques such as the Mecca Masjid that attract large congregations on Fridays must cooperate with the police and allow frisking of those entering it. Old Hyderabad is extremely congested and needs extra precautions.

M.K.D. Prasada Rao,
Ghaziabad

The government can avert such acts of terror only with the help of technology, intelligence, and effective community participation in security matters.

Naveen Marrapu,
Hyderabad

The nation heaved a sigh of relief at the peaceful passing of the bandh called by Muslim organisations protesting the blast. As pointed out in the editorial, utmost vigil is the need of the hour. The people of the city need to be congratulated for exercising restraint in these trying times and frustrating the nefarious design of the terrorists.

C. Sivaiah,
Visakhapatnam

Bandhs following terrorist attacks or the death of a popular leader deserve to be condemned. After a handful of terrorists or assassins have already accomplished their task, of what use is a bandh that adds to the miseries of the common man?

Parties and outfits call for bandhs only to derive political mileage out of a terrible situation created by antisocial elements. They only encourage the perpetrators of the crime.

Capt. T. Raju,
Secunderabad
